Work on the site was halted to allow an investigation to take place, although a Network Rail spokesperson said there will be no serious impact on the timeline of the construction programme.
"At 12:30 on Tuesday afternoon (November 25th), a contractor suffered a serious leg injury while working on the Borders Railway project near Galashiels," said the spokesperson.
"We are working closely with our main contractor BAM to support our colleague and his family."
Last month, the BAM Nuttall's chief executive Stephen Fox was brought before Network Rail boss Mark Carne to explain "a series of workforce injuries" over the last few years.
