We understand that moving to the UK can be a complicated and stressful experience. Our immigration solicitors will get to know you and your plans for the future so we can help you achieve your ambitions in our country.

If you live outside the EEA, you can only move to the UK with a visa and only stay here if you follow the terms of your visa. Each visa has different criteria to meet, and different terms to follow once you’re here.

Choosing the right visa and proving your eligibility can be difficult, particularly if you want to work in the UK or bring your family with you. If you come to the UK with the wrong visa or stay here once your visa has expired, you risk being deported.

Whether you’re moving soon, already here, or you’re still making plans, our immigration solicitors are here to help.

With years of experience advising people in a wide range of situations, we know how difficult moving to a new country can be. We’ll do everything we can to make your move as smooth and worry-free as possible. And once you’re here, you’ll have our full support with any other legal issues you may have.

Call our team today on 0370 1500 100 or contact us online to find out more about what we can do for you.

How Can Our Immigration Solicitors Help?

Whatever your reasons for coming to the UK, we have the experience and technical knowledge you need to make immigration as quick and easy as possible. Our immigration specialists can help you apply for the right visa to:

  • Invest or start a business
  • Conduct a business trip or attend a conference
  • Work, temporarily or long-term
  • Study or research
  • Get private medical treatment
  • Take a short visit
  • Bring your family with you.

If you already have a visa, we may be able to help you extend it so you can stay in the UK longer. We can also guide you through applying for settlement so you can stay in the UK permanently.

Whatever you’d like to apply for, we’ll help you understand what you need to do to make sure your application is successful. If you’re not eligible straight away, we’ll suggest alternatives or advise on a plan so you can apply in the future.

Our solicitors can help if you’re having problems with your move to the UK too. We can challenge rejected visa applications or suggest alternatives so you can continue with your plans.

Why Choose Us?

No one decides to move country lightly. It’s a big decision and it’s worth getting expert advice to make sure your move is a success.

We know through years of experience that there’s no such thing as one-size-fits-all immigration advice. That’s why our immigration lawyers take the time to understand you personally before giving any guidance.

We’ll guide you through every step of the UK immigration process and explain everything you need to know in clear, jargon-free language.

Once you’re here, we’ll continue to advise on whatever legal issues you face. Whether that’s renewing a visa, paying UK tax, or buying a home, we can help. Our immigration team work closely with all of Irwin Mitchell’s wide range of specialist solicitors to give you a fully-joined up service.

Immigration Solicitors - More Information

There are a wide range of visas available for immigrants to the UK. The right one for you will depend on your qualifications, experience, finances, your family, and your plans for the future.

Each visa has a slightly different application process and eligibility criteria, but we understand that any application can be stressful. Depending on the visa, you may need to prove:

  • Your date and place of birth
  • Your education
  • Your parents’ or grandparents’ nationalities
  • That you have access to a certain amount of investment funds
  • That you have a job offer in a particular role or industry
  • That you have a viable and innovative business plan
  • That you’ve been endorsed by an authorised UK organisation.

We’ll get to know you, advise which visas you are eligible for, and which visa is best to help you achieve you goals. You’ll have our support every step of the way through your application, and we’ll help you move to the UK as quickly as possible.

If you’re living in the UK temporarily and would like to stay longer, we may be able to help you extend or renew your visa.

You’ll have to meet certain requirements to extend your visa. We’ll advise whether or not you’re eligible and help you provide evidence for your application.

If you plan to extend your visa in the future, we can help you plan ahead to make sure you’re eligible when the time comes.

Many visas allow you to apply to permanently settle in the UK and then become eligible to apply to become a UK citizen after a certain amount of time.

The amount of time you need to wait before applying depends on which visa you have and sometimes other factors too. For example, if you have a Tier 1 (Investor) visa, the amount of time you have to wait depends on how much money you’ve invested.

There are also eligibility criteria that you have to meet, depending on which visa you currently have. You may need to prove that you’ve already made the UK your main home for a certain amount of time or that you meet certain financial requirements. In many cases you need to show that you have not spent too much time outside the UK

Our solicitors can help you with your application and proving your eligibility. If you’re not eligible right now, we can advise on what you need to do to apply in the future.

With a Tier 1 (Investor) visa, you can come to live in the UK if you invest at least £2 million here. You’ll also need to:

  • Be over 18 years old
  • Have opened an account with a UK regulated bank
  • Be able to prove that you’ve controlled your investment funds for at least two years.

You’ll be able to live, work and study in the UK. You’ll also be allowed to bring dependants with you, including children under18 and your partner, whether you’re married or not.

As standard, the initial visa is valid for three years and four months. You can then apply to extend your visa for another two years. We can also help you apply to settle in the UK permanently once you’ve spent 2-5 years here, depending on how much you’ve invested.

Read more about Tier 1 (Investor) visas.

If you’d like to start a business in the UK, you’ll need a Tier 1 (Innovator) visa or a Start-Up visa. Applying for these visas is complicated and there are lots of terms that you’ll need to comply with while in the UK too.

For example, you must already have a viable and innovative business plan, and this plan must be endorsed by an approved UK organisation. For an innovator visa, you’ll also need to prove that you have access to at least £50,000 to invest in your business.

We can help you apply for these visas or switch to them from another visa if you’re already in the UK.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you help my family come to the UK too?

Many UK visas allow you to bring your family with you when you move here. Whatever your current immigration status, we’ll help however we can to secure the right visas for you and your family.

If you have a visa already, we can advise whether or not you can to bring your family.

If your current visa doesn’t allow your family to immigrate, we may be able to help you switch to a visa that does.

If you’re not eligible to switch visa straight away, we’ll explain what you need to do to switch in the future.

If you don’t have a visa yet, we’ll advise which visa is best for you and your family, and what you need to do to apply successfully.

Our specialist family law team can also advise on relocating children after divorce and a range of other family law issues.

Why choose Irwin Mitchell?
