Financial Planning

A solid financial plan is the first step towards achieving your financial goals. Our experienced financial planners will work closely with you to help you get the most out of your wealth, both now and for the future.

We’ll review your current financial situation including income, assets, expenditure, and liabilities. We’ll also get to know you as a person – what’s important to you and what you want from your wealth.

If you have any concerns about your current or future finances, we’ll advise on a solution. If you have an exact goal in mind, we’ll help you get there.

But we can also guide you if you don’t have anything specific in mind. We’ll show you how to protect your wealth and maintain financial security for you and your family.

How can we help?

We can help you plan for:

  • Retirement and care home fees
  • Changes to your family life
  • Your children’s education
  • Supporting elderly or vulnerable relatives
  • Growing your wealth
  • Passing wealth on to the next generation
  • Charity & philanthropy.

You’ll get exactly the level of advice you need, for as long as you need. Whether you need budgeting advice and a simple savings plan or complex tax-efficient wealth structuring, we can help. If you need a long-term relationship with ongoing financial monitoring, we’ll be there for you.

And if you don’t know exactly what you need, we’ll help you work that out and get a plan in place.

If your financial plan involves investment to provide an income or grow your wealth, we can help with that too. Our investment management service gives you the peace of mind that experts are always looking after your assets and making sure they’re performing well.

Why Irwin Mitchell?

Our financial planners have worked for some of the world’s top financial institutions. We have years of experience advising a wide range of people with a huge diversity of assets and ambitions.

We know there’s no one-size-fits-all financial plan. You’ll get advice that’s specifically tailored to your financial situation and to you as a person.

The unique breadth of expertise available at Irwin Mitchell means that your plan will be as comprehensive as possible. Our financial planners will work closely with tax planners and wealth structuring experts to make sure it’s as efficient as possible.

We have offices across the UK so wherever you’re based, we can help. We’ll pay for your first meeting and there’s no obligation to continue if we’re not right for you.

So call today on 0370 1500 900 or contact us online to find out more about how we can help you.

More Information - Financial Planning

We pay for your first meeting. This time is to see if we’re a good fit with one another. We’ll explain our costs and services, and see if we can help you with your goals.

To find out if we can help you, we need to get to know you as a person - what you want to achieve, when you expect that to be, and what’s important to you.

If we’re both happy that we are right for you, we’ll agree the best way to start.

Taking the time to understand you lets us build an investment plan that’s tailored specifically to you.

The key to this is creating your own ‘risk profile’. We’ll plan your finances and your investments based on what you want from your wealth and when you want it. We’ll also look at the assets you have already and how much risk you’re comfortable with to achieve your goals.

Whether you’re planning for your children’s school fees in 10 years’ time or your retirement fund in 30, your risk profile is unique to you.

No two financial plans are the same. This is the stage where tailor a unique plan that combines your risk with everything else we know about you and your aspirations.

It may not always be possible to achieve your exact goals at your desired risk level. We’ll discuss alternatives, such as easing your goals, increasing investment, or taking more risk.

After your planning meeting, we’ll formalise our recommendations into your own bespoke wealth and financial planning report.

This will outline the method, strategy and expected results of our plan, as well as detailing the costs.

We’ll agree all our fees with you at the start, confirming how much input you want from us and the amount of work this will need. This lets us budget our time and make sure that your fees accurately reflect what you’ll get from us.

Some investments may only need a simple plan and minimal monitoring while others may be smaller in value but more complex.

Once we’ve agreed the plan and the costs, we can begin to put your plan into action.

We’ll now formally take on all of your existing investments and discuss appointing investment managers where appropriate. You’ll get a copy of your plans and the fee schedules, along with any other information you may need about your account.

During this step, we’ll keep you up-to-date throughout, so you know everything that’s happening and what needs to be done.

Just because you’ve signed the agreement doesn’t mean we drop off the radar – we’ll keep in touch.

Your plan is now set up and running. We’ll keep a close eye on it to make sure it’s performing within the agreed risk levels. If we’re worried about anything or think we need to make any changes, we’ll get in touch.

Every six months, you’ll get a valuation of your account as well as a written investment review, and you can speak to us as often as you like between these updates.

At least once a year, we’ll also invite you to a meeting to talk about your plan and how it’s performing. We’ll run through our investment process again to check that your plan is the best it can be. For us, our advice is an ongoing relationship.

We understand that your goals can change over the years. That’s why we make sure that your plan continues to work for you by regularly monitoring your investments and reviewing your financial goals.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a minimum amount I have to invest?

No. We don’t value people based on how much they have to invest.

However, not everyone needs complex financial advice. Although our fees are competitive, you may be able to get more cost-effective advice for simpler financial issues elsewhere.

Since we pay for the first meeting, we use this time to work out if we’re right for you.

Call today on 0370 1500 900 or contact us online to find out more, free of charge.

How much does it cost?

Whether you have a large sum to start with or want to put a little away each month, our commitment to you is the same, and our fee structure reflects that. You only pay for the level of service that’s right for you.

We’ve broken our service into four separate stages, so we can tailor our charges exactly to your needs. You’ll always know what you’re paying for and why. You’re also free to leave at any time, with no exit fee.*

  • First Meeting – We pay for your first meeting. It’s a chance to talk about what you want to achieve and whether we’re right for you. If not, you pay nothing and we’ll even try to recommend an alternative.
  • Financial Planning – We charge a flat fee for the next meeting where we build your financial plan. This helps us give you impartial advice because everyone pays the same, however much they decide to invest.
  • Set-up – The cost of putting your plan in action will depend on what we’ve agreed to do. We’ll let you know this cost before starting any work and only go ahead if you agree.
  • Maintenance – We can monitor and adjust your investments to make sure your money keeps working as hard towards your plan. We’ll work out an percentage fee based on the work and costs involved, and agree this with you in advance.

Who can use this service?

Anyone. Whether you’re already an Irwin Mitchell client or not, our services are available to everyone who needs us.

We pay for your first meeting. So whatever your financial planning needs, give us a call on 0370 1500 900 and we can work out whether or not we’re right for each other. If we can’t help, we’re sure we’ll know someone who can.
