Lawyer Says Decision 'A Real Setback' To Families
Commenting on the outcome of the legal challenge by two disabled adults against plans by Manchester City Council to cut social care for thousands of people in Manchester, Mathieu Culverhouse, solicitor in the Public Law team at Irwin Mitchell’s Manchester office said:
“This decision represents a real setback to all the families who have campaigned tirelessly over the last few months.
“My clients are naturally disappointed with the result and will await the full judgment of the Court before taking what steps to take next.
“Despite the negative outcome, by bringing these proceedings my clients have forced Manchester City Council to clarify their proposals with regard to the future of adult social care and in Court the Council’s lawyers confirmed definitively that the Council would continue to meet the eligible needs of disabled people. My clients welcome this clear statement of the Council’s position and disabled people across Manchester will now look to the Council to ensure that it delivers on this promise.”
