Man Receives Compensation For Hearing Loss After Working In Loud Environments

Irwin Mitchell helped a client receive £2500 compensation as a result of developing hearing loss due to working in a noisy environment without ear protection.

What Happened?
Our client, now 66 years old, was employed by a series of companies (Peglers Ltd, George Turton, Platts & Co Ltd, Brook Motors Ltd and J I Case) between 1961 and 1996, continually exposed to a working environment with loud machinery. During the majority of his working life he wasn’t provided with ear protection, despite the excessive noise.

How Were They Affected?
Our client found in later life that his hearing was deteriorating. He struggles to follow conversations when there is any background noise and he has to have the volume on the TV turned up louder than what is a comfortable volume for other people in the room. This means he will more than likely need hearing aids in future life.

The Result
Irwin Mitchell, on behalf of our client, instructed a medical expert to provide a report about his hearing loss. It was found that his hearing had been damaged significantly during his period of employment and this could have been prevented with ear protection.
