Our personal injury solicitors secured five-figures in compensation for our clients, a large extended family. This was in a group claim after they were exposed to carbon monoxide poisoning while in a ski resort in France.
What happened?
Our clients booked a ski trip to France over the Christmas period. Their booking included flights, transfers, ski pass, and accommodation in a chalet at the ski resort.
On their final day of skiing, the family returned to the chalet. In the early hours of the morning, they were exposed to carbon monoxide poisoning. Fire and ambulance services were called and the family members needed medical treatment.
How did Irwin Mitchell’s solicitors help?
Our specialist solicitors instructed a respiratory expert to assess the family, focusing on whether there may be any long-term health implications. This assessment also helped identify the appropriate medical support each individual might have required. In addition, we explored the potential need for psychological support to ensure a comprehensive understanding of the family’s overall wellbeing.
The resort responsible for the carbon monoxide exposure engaged promptly through Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR). While no formal admission of liability was made, we were able to reach an out-of-court settlement, with our clients accepting the compensation offer provided. This resolution enabled our clients to begin moving forward with their lives and focus on putting the incident and its associated trauma behind them.
We were able to settle the group claim for a five-figure sum.
