Irwin Mitchell’s Public Liability Team has successfully recovered compensation for a woman injured when she slipped and fell on wet stairs.
Our client had been attending a music event at the Leeds premises when she attempted to walk down stairs connecting two separate levels within the venue. The stairs were wet and extremely slippery, causing her to fall and sustain injury.
The woman suffered soft tissue injuries to her chest area and right elbow. She experienced pain for two months and as a result was unable to resume her normal hobbies for some time following the accident. She also had to take time off her college course.
Claire Newstead, of Irwin Mitchell’s Leeds office, helped the woman claim over £2,000 after arguing that the stairs ought to have been regularly inspected so that the wet surface could have been remedied. In addition, an adequate system of warning signs would have alerted our client to the danger of the wet surface, preventing her from slipping and sustaining injury. It is hoped that the lessons learnt by the Defendants in this case will ensure that this type of accident does not happen again.
