A Leeds man has been awarded compensation as a result of injuries he sustained at his gym.
Someone had left two 20kg weights stacked dangerously on the top of the stack of weights on a weights machine in the gym.
Our client was taking them off when one dropped off breaking his foot.
The man was a self employed window cleaner and as a result of this injury he was unable to work for a period of time.
Investigations uncovered that this type of incident was a common occurrence and a claim was therefore brought against the gym for failing to have an adequate safety regime in place.
Irwin Mitchell’s Leeds team assisted the man in securing £5,200 for his injuries and for compensation for loss of earnings as a result.
It is hoped that lessons have been learnt by the gym, changes are made to their safety regime and that, as a result of this case, accidents of this type do not happen in future.
