A shop assistant has received over £1,500 compensation after she was injured in an accident at work.
Our client was injured when part of a cabinet fell on her big toe whilst at work in April 2007.
As a result of her injuries, our client was off work for three weeks, though was not able to return to full duties for two months. It also took four months for her nail to fall off and a new one to re-grow. She was also believed to have suffered a tuft fracture of the distal phalanx.
The case was settled prior to legal proceedings with help from Lisa Fairclough of Irwin Mitchell’s specialist Industrial Accident Team, based in Sheffield.
She said: "This was a simple accident involving a heavy counter which was not properly attached and consequently fell onto the claimant’s foot. It emphasises the need for employers to ensure that their premises are kept well maintained and that faults which could lead to injury are quickly sorted out."
