Biography
I am an associate solicitor based in Gatwick specialising in all work involved with Private Client.
Working closely with individuals and families to advise and in all aspects of Private Client, from cradle to grave and beyond. Creating wills which consider mitigation of Inheritance Tax and planning for younger, perhaps vulnerable beneficiaries, whilst giving consideration and protection for possible more complex family dynamics, be that with pending divorce or disputes. Lifetime planning is critical to ensure putting in place structures to ensure maximisation of asset protection.
I have specialist experience in advising the Elderly and Vulnerable and Later Life issues and planning, in relation to Lasting Powers of Attorney and registration of Enduring Powers of Attorney, as well as Court of Protection work including Deputyship and Statutory Will applications.
Being fully bilingual in French and English comes in very useful not just for my own clients, but helping colleagues too.
What Inspired You To Get Into Law?
A change in my personal life required a significant change of tack. Nothing like a challenge, I juggled three young children, three jobs and a return to university.
I qualified as a solicitor in 2013.

What Do You Like About Working At Irwin Mitchell?
Working with a team both locally and nationally is hugely rewarding. The depth of knowledge, experience and support the lawyers have is second to none.
What Do You Do Away From The Office?
I like nothing more than pottering in my garden with my chickens and veg patch. Long walks in the Surrey hills, or trips in the camper van the perfect escape.
Client testimonials
"As executor of my late mother's will, I found the prospect of carrying out her wishes and all the duties that go with it quite daunting. I was fortunate to hear of Sophie Smith at Irwin Mitchell, and immediately appointed her to undertake the task at hand. I couldn't have found a more dedicated person to act for me, and deal with the administration of my mother's estate.
During the twenty months that followed, Sophie worked tirelessly through all the problems that lay ahead. My mother's house sale was prolonged through Brexit and COVID complications. However, Sophie maintained a thoughtful and caring attitude throughout whilst maintaining communications with me here in New Zealand. I highly recommend Sophie Smith at Irwin Mitchell to anyone who requires a professional and dedicated private wealth solicitor." - 5* Trustpilot review
