Irwin Mitchell Instructed To Help Investigate Circumstances Surrounding Dad’s Hospital Death

The family of a man who died a week after undergoing surgery at a Leicester hospital is hoping an upcoming inquest will provide much needed answers regarding his death.

Graham Chapman underwent surgery to repair an abdominal aortic aneurysm at Glenfield Hospital on 31 January this year. He remained in hospital until his death on 7 January.

Following the 67-year-old’s death, his family from Sleaford, Lincolnshire, instructed specialist medical negligence lawyers at Irwin Mitchell to investigate the care Graham received under University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust.

Graham was a much-loved husband, dad and grandfather and his family are still struggling to come to terms with his death just a few days after undergoing elective surgery.

“The family hope that the inquest will provide them with the much needed answers they want as to why Graham died.

Graham, a retired farmer and public speaker for the Prison Me No Way! Trust, was married to Delia, aged 68. The couple had two children Stephanie, aged 42, and Carl aged 44, as well as six grandchildren aged between three and 18.

Graham was referred to Glenfield Hospital following a consultation at Boston’s Pilgrim Hospital.

Graham’s daughter Stephanie, said: “It is still hard to believe that dad is gone, he was such a huge part of all our lives and there is not a day goes by when we don’t think of him.

“Losing him in this way has raised many questions. While we know the inquest is going to be an emotional time I’m hopeful that the hearing will fully examine all of the facts and help our family get the answers we deserve.”

An inquest is due to be held at Leicester Coroner’s Court on June 6.
