Man Injured In Fall At Paper Mill

Fall at work

The Health and Safety Executive has launched an inquiry after a 65-year-old subcontractor was seriously hurt at a paper mill in Kent.

Paramedics attended the accident at the M-Real New Thames Mill in Kemsley, Sittingbourne, and the man was airlifted to hospital.

It is believed the worker was descending into a pulping tank when he fell between 9ft and 12ft.

Two fire crews from Sittingbourne assisted the emergency services, who moved him from the scene of the accident on a spinal board and took him to the Royal London Hospital in east London by helicopter.

Company secretary David Scudder said: "The injured party was unconscious for a small period, but later regained consciousness.

"The Health and Safety Executive has been advised. We will also be carrying out our own investigation."
