Irwin Mitchell’s Southampton Medical Negligence Team Organises Networking Event For Dan White’s Campaigning For Change
Specialist lawyers at Irwin Mitchell’s Southampton office are to host an inspirational night promoting the work of a local disability campaigner.
The firm’s Medical Negligence team is holding an Evening of Inspiration between 6pm and 9pm on Thursday, 28 September.
Guests of honour will be Dan White, founder of the Department of Ability. Fellow campaigner Sam Renke, Irwin Mitchell clients and representatives from various charities are also set to be in attendance.
Dan gave up his job to set up the Department of Ability following the birth of his daughter Emily, who was diagnosed with spina bifida, because he found a lack of positive media coverage about disability.
Dan has produced a comic book in which Emily, aged 12, is part of the superhero gang which make up the “Department of Ability”. All of the gang were “born to be different, born to save the world”.
He will be talking about how the idea for the Department of Ability came about, as well as his experience as the parent of a disabled child and his work to encourage inclusion across every aspect of society for people with disabilities.
Sam Renke, a teacher turned actress has brittle bone condition, and campaigns to dispel stereotypes connected to people with a disability. She will be attending to lend her support to Dan and help promote his campaign.
