Specialist Lawyers Are Investigating Cause Of The Illness Suffered by Couple during stay at hotel
A woman, whose holiday to a four-star resort in Bulgaria with her husband was ruined when they fell ill, has instructed specialist international personal injury lawyers at Irwin Mitchell to investigate the cause of their illness.
Maureen Cochlan, 56 from Dundee, booked the week-long holiday at the four-star Hotel Marlin Beach resort, Bulgaria, through Balkan Holidays Limited, jetting off in May 2017.
But two days into the holiday Maureen began to feel unwell. As a result of her illness she visited a local pharmacy in order to obtain some advice and medication. Maureen was still suffering from her illness upon return home and therefore had to receive medical attention on arrival back in the UK.
After seeing her GP, Maureen was prescribed a course of antibiotics. Unfortunately, despite completing the course, Maureen continues to suffer still from gastric illness symptoms.
The mother-of-three instructed expert International Personal Injury lawyers at Irwin Mitchell to investigate how she came to fall so ill.
Maureen said: “The holiday was ruined as soon as I fell ill and just got worse as it went on as I suffered more and more with my symptoms.
“It was meant to be a relaxing holiday for my husband and I but instead it has left us both in a state of ill health.
“I just want to know the cause for my illness, and if any steps could have been taken to prevent it.”
Maureen has raised concerns with her legal team over the hygiene standards at the hotel. These include uncovered and slimy looking food served on occasions, staff sometimes putting new food on top of old rather than fully replacing, and on occasions the same utensils being used for different food.
Amandeep Samra, the legal specialist in Irwin Mitchell’s International Personal Injury team representing Maureen, said:
Expert Opinion
“We are concerned by the first-hand account of what our clients faced during what was meant to be an enjoyable and relaxing holiday for them both.
“A case of this nature demonstrates how serious gastric illness can be, with Maureen still suffering from the same symptoms weeks after returning home.
“We have now commenced our own investigations into the holiday illness and are keen to determine what can be done to ensure that they gain answers as to what caused Maureen to fall ill. As part of our investigation we would be keen to hear from anyone else who was affected or witnessed the problems at the Hotel Marlin Beach resort in Bulgaria.” Amandeep Singh Samra - Associate Solicitor
