Irwin Mitchell’s asbestos related disease specialists helped a family to secure a six-figure sum following the death of a loved one due to mesothelioma.
Mr H, a plumber from North Yorkshire, died from mesothelioma, a cancer caused by exposure to asbestos. He was exposed to the substance between the 1950s and the late 1970s due to the lagging materials used by both him and his employer.
Working alongside Mark Aldridge, a solicitor in our Asbestos Related Disease team, Mr H’s family secured a compensation sum of £127,000.
In relation to the case, Mark said: “It’s always rewarding when we succeed in cases like this. It means that Mr H’s widow will be provided for financially is future years and whilst we can do nothing more to undo the harm done by this terrible disease, she will have one less thing to worry about.”
Mark also highlighted that mesothelioma is a continuing threat, commenting: “It’s estimated by the British Lung Foundation that over 60,000 people will succumb to this disease in the next 30 years.
“More research needs to be done to find a cure for this condition.”
