Irwin Mitchell’s serious injury solicitors helped secure a substantial settlement for a young man, who suffered significant injuries, including a severe brain injury, in a collision with an ambulance responder vehicle.

Accident

Our client was in the process of making a right hand turn into a major road when the accident occurred. The junction had many cars on both sides of the road severely limiting our client’s view of approaching traffic. As our client proceeded out of the junction he was hit by an ambulance first responder vehicle. The accident happened at lunch time in a built up area in close vicinity to schools and colleges. The ambulance responder vehicle was responding to a 999 call and was travelling well above the speed limit and far too fast for the circumstances of the road at that time.

Liability

Our client contacted Carolyn Heaton in our Serious Injury team. The ambulance service denied liability for a long time resulting in court proceedings having to be issued against the driver of the first responder vehicle and the ambulance service.

After a long and hard-fought battle, liability was resolved on a 50/50 basis, meaning that our client would receive 50% of the compensation due to him for his injuries.

Our client was able to return to his pre accident work but was very much protected by his line manager who made various allowances for him in order to accommodate his difficulties. Settlement
