Irwin Mitchell successfully settled a claim on behalf of a client who was injured when visiting her local Morrisons store.
She was walking down one of the shopping aisles alongside some chiller cabinets, when she slipped and fell in some coleslaw that had been spilt on the floor. In an attempt to stop herself falling to the floor our client reached out to grab onto the chiller cabinet, twisting her body around sharply and sustaining injury.
Due to previous spinal fusion surgery that our client had undergone, the twisting injury sustained in this accident jarred her spine as a result of the fall and caused further injury to her lower back, including a lumbar sprain. This also brought on the activation of pre-existing degenerative changes in her lower back.
Following the accident our client has required treatment from a pain specialist and injections in order to manage her symptoms. Functionality in her back is unlikely to fully recover but should return to her pre accident status.
Liability was admitted by the supermarket, and Kay Bailey of Irwin Mitchell’s specialist public liability team was delighted to settle this case on behalf of our client for £14,000 in compensation for the injuries she sustained through no fault of her own.
If you've been injured in a supermarket and it wasn't your fault, our personal injury claims team could help you claim compensation. See our Supermarket Accident Claims page for more information.
