A Bristol man has just recovered compensation for his exposure to noise at work.
Mr C worked at the Distillers Co (Yeast) factory between 1966 -1987.
In the first 10 years of his employment with this company he worked in the yeast factory and was exposed to excessive levels of noise.
The client operated a packing machine and it was extremely noisy. There were 3 machines on the first floor and 5 on the ground floor and he worked on both floors.
Mr C recalls “You could not speak to your co-workers in a normal voice; you had to raise your voice to be heard over the noise of the machines and conveyors. The machines ran 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. I worked continental shifts (6-2, 2-10, 10-6) plus overtime. Because the machines didn’t stop, if the operator on the next shift didn’t come in, you had to stay on and this happened fairly often.”
Louise Scott from our Birmingham office dealt with the claim and said “the claim was settled by negotiated settlement within 12 months, Mr C received a four figure sum and we are both delighted with the result.”
