Expert Travel Lawyers Secure Four-Figure Sum After Illness At Green Anatolia Hotel
A family of five from Merseyside have said they can now put a terrible Turkish holiday experience, which left one of them in hospital suffering with acute kidney injury, behind them after expert travel lawyers at Irwin Mitchell secured them a four-figure settlement.
Arthur Currie, 72, and his family, from Prescot, Merseyside booked a two-week stay at the Green Anatolia resort in Turkey in July 2012 with Thomas Cook t/a flexibletrips. But just days into their stay at the four-star hotel Arthur began to suffer with vomiting, a fever and lethargy.
The symptoms he suffered were so severe that an ambulance was called to the resort and he was rushed to hospital where he received treatment for his symptoms.
Arthur and his family instructed specialist international personal injury lawyers at Irwin Mitchell to investigate the cause of his illness at the hotel and the health complications it caused him.
The expert travel lawyers at Irwin Mitchell have now secured a four-figure out-of-court settlement from Thomas Cook t/a flexibletrips, despite the tour operator denying liability for the illness Arthur suffered.
After returning to the UK, Arthur told his legal team that hygiene standards at the hotel were not what he was expecting.
He recalled food being left uncovered as well as fresh food being added to existing food on the buffet. He also said the public toilets he used at the hotel were often dirty.
Jennifer Downing, an expert travel illness lawyer at Irwin Mitchell, who represented Arthur and his family, said:
Expert Opinion
“The ordeal this family went through shows just how much of an impact gastric illness can have, as Arthur suffered kidney problems as a result of dehydration caused by his illness.
“He spent a week in hospital in Turkey, which is not at all what he, or his family, expected when they booked their holiday.
“We are now delighted to have secured a settlement for Arthur and his family to cover the cost of their ruined holiday and the illness he suffered so they can begin to put this terrible experience behind them.” Jennifer Downing - Solicitor
Arthur, a retired fork lift driver, said: “Holidays are supposed to be relaxing and enjoyable and this was booked to celebrate a special occasion with my family. But after a few days I started suffering terrible symptoms and it was absolutely terrifying when I was rushed to hospital.
“It was very difficult being stuck in a foreign hospital on what was supposed to be an enjoyable family trip. I’m just thankful I managed to recover and make my way home.
“I’m delighted that Irwin Mitchell has now secured us a settlement for the ordeal we went through and hope to start putting the whole experience behind us.”
