Our Birmingham Serious Injury team secured a substantial settlement for a client who suffered severe leg fractures in a head on collision. The accident happened as he was travelling between Leicestershire and Warwickshire.
He was on his way to deliver Christmas presents to his family. A hire car was driving on the wrong side of the road as our client came around a bend and a collision was inevitable. The driver of the hire car was a US national and had become confused when driving, thinking that he was on the correct side of the road.
Partner Stephen Nye dealt with the case and commented: "This was a high speed collision which left my client with multiple lower limb fractures. At the last moment prior to impact he was able to take some evasive action and had he not done so, the outcome could have been so much worse. The fractures kept him off work for over six months and whilst he has made a better recovery than expected, he will suffer from ongoing symptoms, which may make it more difficult for him to do physical work when he is older.
"This was a very unfortunate incident, but it is a warning to anyone driving abroad where the rules of the road are different, that extra care should be taken."
