Our Accident at Work Team recently helped a 34-year-old man from Sheffield to claim £10,000 in compensation, after he suffered burns to his head and neck as a result of an explosion whilst he was at work.
Our client, who was employed as a welder and had over 18 years experience had been instructed to help remove an old machine to enable a new machinery to be installed.
Hydraulic pipes had to be cut to get the old machine out. Our client had checked with colleagues that he was working with that the pressure from the pipes had been released and he was informed that it had.
Unfortunately, whilst cutting the last pipe, it suddenly exploded in flames, causing our client’s head, neck and hair to catch fire. Due to this incident, our client suffered severe burns around the head and neck areas.
Our client was taken to hospital where his wounds were cleaned and he was given pain relief and cream to apply. He was kept in hospital overnight.
Following discharge from hospital, our client had several uncomfortable night’s sleep due to the pain he was suffering. He had to take approximately five weeks off work due to this injury.
Our client’s employer admitted liability for the accident and with our help, he received £10,000 in compensation.
