Our Birmingham based serious injury team has secured a maximum award from the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority, for a client who sustained a spinal cord injury in the course of a serious assault.
Our client from Northamptonshire was awarded £500,000 as a consequence of the severe injuries she sustained, which have rendered her paraplegic.
Multiple injuries, including stab wounds were inflicted in the assault, which left our client with irreparable damage to the spinal cord.
Partner Stephen Nye commented, “This was a vicious and cowardly attack on our client, which has left her with devastating injuries. Whilst the maximum award from the CICA will go some way to providing for her long term care and accommodation needs, because the scheme does not provide the same full compensation that civil proceedings do, our client will probably have to rely upon other statutory services in the future. It is disappointing that the CICA scheme has now been further narrowed in scope, such that it will be more difficult for seriously injured victims of crime to secure much needed compensation in the future."
