Irwin Mitchell’s specialist road traffic accident team have recovered a five figure sum for a cyclist injured in a road traffic collision in September 2009.
Our client was riding his bicycle on the road when upon entering a roundabout he was hit by a car. The collision threw him off his bicycle and knocked him unconscious.
Upon further examination at the hospital, it became clear that our client had been injured in several places which required treatment. The list of injuries included a head injury, wound to the back of the neck, cuts on the nose and eyebrows, soft tissue injuries on the elbows and shoulders, bruising to legs, and worsening of both a pre-existing neck problem and tinnitus.
Katy Bailey, a personal injury specialist based in our Sheffield office, worked on the case and recovered £20,484 compensation in an out of court settlement in March 2013.
Katy commented: “this case emphasises to us the vulnerability of cyclists on the road and stresses the need for drivers to take particular care when driving near cyclists, especially on roundabouts. If the driver in question had done so, this accident could have been avoided”.
