Irwin Mitchell's specialist serious injury team in London have assisted a client and her family to obtain compensation after a collision with a Police van left her seriously injured.
Our client and her husband were in London visiting their son for Christmas. One evening, on their way home, a Police van went through a set of red lights and collided with the side of the taxi the client and her family were travelling in.
All passengers were injured. Our client was the more severely injured sustaining a broken nose, jaw, hip, right arm and also lost the sight in her left eye. She spent approximately seven months in hospital and rehabilitation facilities before being discharged home.
Adaptations were made to our client's home, notably the kitchen and bathroom, to allow her to access these with more ease in light of her physical and visual difficulties.
An interim payment of £37,500 was also secured to enable the client to have access to the necessary funds to restore some quality to her life. Her injuries meant that the client had gone from being a very active individual to being heavily reliant upon her husband. Provisions for access to a taxi account, domestic assistance, for example, were all included in her claim to help her become more autonomous and assist her adjust to her injuries.
The matter was ultimately settled a few weeks before the trial for a total of £235,000. These funds will enable her to put the various recommendations in place on an ongoing basis for the rest of her life.
