Irwin Mitchell's specialist Personal Injury team has assisted a woman to obtain compensation after she suffered a spinal fracture when she slipped on a wet floor.
Our client was shopping in a supermarket in January 2010. She was in the clothing department carrying her basket in one hand and shopping list in the other. Suddenly her feet shot from under her and up into the air, causing her to land heavily on her bottom. She felt the force of the impact travel up her spine and was shocked and dazed. She noticed a wet patch on the floor where she had slipped.
She took painkillers but did not seek medical attention immediately; however the pain persisted so she visited her GP who referred her for an x-ray and physiotherapy.
The x-ray revealed that she had sustained a compression fracture to her spine. As there is no treatment available for this injury our client had to simply give it time to recover. During this time she suffered pain and restricted movement.
For three or four months after the accident our client was unable to attend keep fit classes, she had discomfort when bending forward, sitting and lifting heavy objects, difficulty gardening and had to take pain relief.
After negotiation Irwin Mitchell's Sheffield team secured compensation of £5,000 for our client.
