Lawyers at Irwin Mitchell recently assisted a woman who was injured in a road traffic accident and then went on to develop Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and depression, to claim compensation.
Our client was injured in the accident on 3rd December 2008 when another car turned across her path of travel so she was unable to avoid a collision. As a result of the impact, she was trapped inside the car for approximately one hour and had to be removed by the fire services.
She sustained soft tissue injuries to her neck and back that left her unable to drive and consequently unable to work for several weeks.
When she was able to rerun to her job as a primary school teacher, she struggled to cope due to problems with her memory. This was later diagnosed as an effect of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. She later went on to develop depression.
After a prolonged period of absence from work, she reached a mutual agreement with her employer and left her job at the end of 2011. Since then she has had treatment for her symptoms and the prognosis is good. She hopes to return to teaching in some capacity in the future.
Lawyers at Irwin Mitchell were able to demonstrate that the symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and depression were a result of the accident and successfully recovered £64,000 in compensation for the client.
