We secured a four figure sum for a girl who was injured by a defective oven while she was baking with her mother.
In June 2008 our client's mother had a new kitchen fitted in the family home, including a new Candy Oven from Homebase. It worked well until the next year, when mother and daughter were in the kitchen baking buns together. The girl's mother had turned the oven off when suddenly the glass panel on the front door shattered unexpectedly.
Glass shards hit the little girl, injuring her. After the accident, her mother contacted Irwin Mitchell - and our investigations showed that the glass which was fitted into the oven door was in fact defective. Although her daughter's wounds did heal without scarring, the psychological distress from the explosion and from her injuries are likely to be longer lasting.
We secured our client £1,200 in an out of court settlement. The Judge approved the award at Court during an infant approval hearing.
