An off duty Royal Marine Commando suffered serious injury when he crashed his motorcycle into a Belgian Ministry of Defence Ambulance which was doing a U-turn in the road. The former Marine tried to avoid the collision but heavy braking caused him to be thrown head first into the side of the ambulance. His head was pushed both forwards and back which resulted in a broken neck and spinal fractures to the upper part of the back of his chest and fractured ribs.
Initially it was feared that he may be paralysed however despite regaining feeling in his legs he has been left with incurable and constant neck pain.
Irwin Mitchell helped the client make a motorcycle accident claim and he was awarded £400,000 compensation, which included recompense for the loss of earnings and continued care.
