Legal Experts From Leeds And Sheffield Raised Over £1,000 For June Hancock Fund
Following on from the success of the Leeds Serious Injury team’s Dragon Boat Race in May, specialist Asbestos-Related Disease lawyers from Irwin Mitchell’s Leeds and Sheffield offices took to the waters of Roberts Park, Saltaire, as part of the Bradford Dragon Boat Race Festival.
Three days of festival fun took place between Friday 21 June and Sunday 23 June, with an estimated attendance of around 20,000 people.
Calling themselves the ‘Meso Warriors’, the team from Irwin Mitchell raised in excess of £1,000 for the June Hancock Mesothelioma Research Fund (JHMRF) by competing in this year’s Multi-Charity Championship which was held on the Sunday. Joining the lawyers were trustees, researchers and supporters of JHMRF.
Expert Opinion
“I wanted to say a huge thank you to all who took part. It was a great event. I am extremely grateful to everyone for giving up their precious time and for raising so much money for the charity - well done team!
JHMRF started in 1997 and relies entirely on donations, legacies and fund-raising to ensure continued support for the vital role that research plays, and will continue to play, in the fight against mesothelioma. We are thrilled to be able to support them with their work.”

JHMRF was set up by June Hancock to raise public awareness of the effects of asbestos exposure. The charity also supports a wide range of research projects and activities helping people with mesothelioma – a cancer of the lining of the lungs which is most commonly associated with being exposed to asbestos fibres and dust.
Kimberley Stubbs, daughter of June Hancock, chair and trustee of JHMRF, said: “Through extremely distressing circumstances of my mum’s illness, my family came to know Irwin Mitchell Solicitors. The fact that 25 years later they are raising money for the charity and mesothelioma research speaks volumes. I cannot thank the rowers, the organisers and the supporters enough. I was incredibly proud. Thank you.”
