March Deadline Set For Responses On Improving Conditions For Landlords And Tenants
The Government has published a discussion document to assess the steps which can be taken to tackle the issue of rogue landlords.
Review of Property Conditions in the Private Rented Sector has been issued by the Department for Communities and Local Government and is the first stage of a review into the property conditions in the private rented sector.
It requests comments on issues including the rights and responsibilities of tenants and landlords, tackling retaliatory eviction, safety conditions and the licensing of rented housing.
The closing date for responses to the document is March 28th and the Government has stressed the aim is to tackle rogue landlords while ensuring that good ones are not impacted.
Expert Opinion
This is a welcome step towards addressing what can be done to ensure that the private rented sector is operating in the best manner for both landlords and the tenants who occupy their properties. <br/> <br/>"We would urge responsible landlords to submit their views on this issue before the deadline to provide vital feedback on what can be done to improve the system – and ultimately prevent themselves from being adversely affected by the actions of a minority of rogue landlords."
