DJ 'Deafened' By Airhorn At Manchester Event

International DJ Lil Louis Worried Career May Be Over Following Incident

Louis Sims, a DJ who rose to international fame as the ‘founding father of house music’ Lil Louis, is concerned that his career may be over following an incident last weekend.

Sims was soundchecking before his set at Manchester nightclub Sankeys when an airhorn was sounded just inches from his ear.

The Chicago DJ, who scored multiple hits in the early 90s, told his Facebook fans that a sound “louder and more shrill than anything I’d ever heard” caused him to jump in the air and scream in pain.

“The pain was followed by an intense ringing and muffled silence,” he wrote. Sims was then taken to hospital and informed he had sound induced hearing loss (SILH).

As SILH can be permanent, Sims is concerned that he may be unable to continue his work in the music industry, both behind the decks and in the studio.

Lil Louis apologised to his fans for being unable to perform and is still in hospital, awaiting further tests.

If you or a loved one has suffered from hearing damage such as acoustic shock, tinnitus, and noise-induced hearing loss caused by conditions at work our solicitors could help you claim compensation. See our Industrial Disease Claims page for more information.

Expert Opinion
This incident illustrates the dangers of sound-induced hearing loss and the impact a loss of hearing can have on those affected. In our work we see the devastating impact hearing loss can have on individuals, particularly those who rely on their hearing in their job.

“It is vital a thorough investigation into this incident is carried out and action is taken to prevent similar incidents in the future. It is important as much as possible if done to protect people from the dangers and risks of loud noises, so issues like this, which can have an impact on people’s day-to-day lives as well as their professional lives, are avoided in the future.”
