Firm ranked Among The Best Workplaces For Women In The UK
National law firm Irwin Mitchell has been ranked as one of the best firms in the UK for women to work for by the Great Place To Work Institute.
Irwin Mitchell ranked 13 in the Super Large category of organisations across the UK with over 1,000 employees and the achievement builds on the firm being named a great place to work in the institute’s general workplace survey announced in April.
In contrast to much of the legal sector, 70 per cent of colleagues at Irwin Mitchell are female, and the gender pay gap is lower than the industry and national average. The Exec Board is also made up of 40 per cent female colleagues. Irwin Mitchell has also recently launched a new Parental Portal to support all parents through any leave and to make their return to work as smooth as possible.
A consultancy specialising in workplace culture, Great Place To Work helps organisations to create high performing workplaces where employees feel trusted and valued.
The UK’s Best Workplaces for Women awards recognises the high level of engagement and trust in Irwin Mitchell when compared to a range of organisations across all sectors.
Based on the responses to the annual survey and a review of the firm’s people policies and programmes, Great Place to Work recognised the firm as: “prioritising gender neutrality to help build a trusted culture of collaboration and innovation where people feel valued and committed to achieving organisational goals.”
A lot of hard work has been undertaken by the firm to improve gender balance and champion diversity, which has led to one of the lowest gender pay gaps in the legal industry, coupled with a high representation of women at senior levels of the business.
Expert Opinion
“To be recognised as one of the UK’s Best Workplaces for Women is a great accolade – and testament to the focus over many years that our business has had on creating a diverse and inclusive workplace. I am very grateful to all our colleagues for helping us to achieve this.
“This aim is at the heart of our Diversity & Inclusion strategy as we look to challenge the systemic issues and unconscious bias that can limit opportunities for people from a range of backgrounds.
“I truly believe that becoming an even more inclusive business will continue to deliver great outcomes for our colleagues, clients and communities.
“The award demonstrates the progress we’re making but there’s more to do, and we’re working with colleagues from across our business with an aim of being a step ahead.”
