Experts Contacted For Fourth Consecutive Year Regarding Turkish Resort
More than 20 frustrated holidaymakers who suffered gastric illness problems during stays at the Liberty Lykia World resort in the Oludeniz Turkey this year have called on specialist lawyers to investigate the issues they faced and help them gain answers regarding what happened.
Irwin Mitchell’s specialist holiday illness team has been instructed by a total of 22 people regarding illness at the hotel in Oludeniz, with each of them raising a number of concerns regarding health and hygiene standards at the site.
Among the holidaymakers to contact Irwin Mitchell is Emma Longstaff, 47, from Bristol, who was ‘devastated’ when her three-year-old son Robbie needed hospital treatment and was diagnosed with acute gastroenteritis during their stay at the resort in June.
The latest cases also mean the experts have been instructed in relation to illness problems at the Liberty Hotel Lykia for the fourth year in a row. The team represented over 50 holidaymakers who fell ill at the resort in the summer of 2016. The firm also successfully represented over 40 people who fell ill at the resort in 2010.
Jatinder Paul, the legal specialist at Irwin Mitchell who is representing those affected by the most recent problems at the Liberty Lykia World resort, said:
Expert Opinion
“We are concerned by the accounts once again provided to us by our clients and are already working hard to shed more light on the issues which have been raised with us.
“Cases of this nature highlight the very serious impact that gastric illness can have on holidaymakers. Not only do they ruin precious time abroad, but they can also lead to long-term health issues and often many need hospital treatment.
“We are advising a growing group of holidaymakers caught up in these problems. As part of our investigations we would like to hear from other guests who may have information about conditions at the hotel this summer.
“We are determined to ensure that our clients’ voices are heard on this and will fight to get them the answers they deserve regarding what has happened.” Jatinder Paul - Partner
Emma Longstaff’s 10-day stay at the Liberty Lykia World resort – which was booked through Thomas Cook – started on June 15th and both she and her son Robbie started to feel unwell a few days later.
She said: “I initially felt really out of sorts and needed medical attention from the resort doctor when I got progressively worse, but I was devastated to see how it affected Robbie. He was in such a bad way that I had no option but to try and get him to a hospital.
“I simply couldn’t believe it when he was diagnosed with acute gastroenteritis – it was the last thing I expected to happen when we were on holiday.”
Robbie was in hospital for 24 hours and suffered with severe symptoms of diarrhoea, vomiting, abdominal pain and severe dehydration, which led to Robbie requiring intravenous fluids for 24 hours.
While his condition improved, Emma then needed medical treatment herself. Despite the medical attention that they received on holiday, Emma and Robbie have required further medical advice when they returned to the UK.
She added: “I had noticed a few issues at the resort like unclean tables and hotel rooms, but did not think we were ever going to be at serious risk of illness. It is shocking to think that we are far from the only ones as well.
“There is clearly a need for investigations into these issues and we are now desperate for answers as to what happened. I would not wish our illness problems on my worst enemy, so it is vital steps are taken to prevent it from ever happening again.”
