Irwin Mitchell Organises Fundraiser For Roundabout
Employees from the Sheffield office of Irwin Mitchell raised over £2,700 for a local charity by hosting their eleventh annual netball tournament.
Roundabout, which provides shelter and support to young homeless people in the city, will benefit from this year’s Irwin Mitchell Charities Foundation (IMCF) Netball Tournament, played at the English Institute of Sport on Sunday 19 August.
There were 13 teams from Sheffield taking part in the tournament, including Irwin Mitchell Ladies, and the funds raised through the event will added to the total raised by Irwin Mitchell employees in Sheffield throughout the year and donated to the good cause in early 2019.
The donation will help Roundabout provide young people aged between 16 and 24 who are affected by or at risk of homelessness with shelter, support and life skills. The charity, which supports over 150 young people every day, also works in the community to breakdown stereotypes around homelessness.
This is the eleventh annual IMCF Netball Tournament that Irwin Mitchell colleagues have held, and in total the event has now raised over £20,000 for good causes in Sheffield, which have been the firm’s previous Charities of the Year. In addition to Roundabout, these include Cavendish Cancer Care, Sheffield Young Carers, St Luke's Hospice, Sheffield Children's Hospital Charity, Weston Park Cancer Charity, Bluebell Wood and Support Dogs.
Established in 1997, the IMCF is an independent registered charity set up by the firm which has donated more than £1.8 million to third sector organisations across the country.
Litigation solicitor Jamie Young, who helped set up the IMCF Netball Tournament, said: “We’re delighted that the event raised such a fantastic amount which will be a great boost to our fundraising total. Hearing about the amazing work Roundabout do with young people and their families in the city definitely makes the mammoth task of organising the event worthwhile.
“Everyone connected to the IMCF is passionate about giving back to the communities we operate in and helping to make a real difference to the lives of those supported by our Charities of the Year.
“With our eleventh annual netball tournament helping us pass the £20,000 mark, we’re incredibly proud of what we have achieved and look forward to working towards our next milestone.”
Ben Keegan, Roundabout’s chief executive, said: “We’re thrilled that Irwin Mitchell has chosen us as their Charity of the Year and delighted to see that the netball match was such a great success! The money raised will go towards our Peer Education work, where young people who have experienced homelessness are trained to hold homeless education lessons in schools and inform students of local services that can help them. We want to make sure that no young person ever leaves their family home unless they really have to, and this partnership with Irwin Mitchell is going to allow us to help even more young people at risk of homelessness.”
