Boy Taken to Hospital and Public Health England Notified After Holiday Illness
The parents of a child who was diagnosed with Salmonella following illness suffered on holiday have instructed specialist International Personal Injury lawyers at Irwin Mitchell to investigate how their boy fell ill.
William Faircloth suffered severe vomiting and diarrhoea on the 13th day of a two week family holiday at the four-star Protur Aparthotel Vista Badia in Majorca.
William’s symptoms were so bad that Public Health England investigated the illness after the family returned from their all-inclusive break to their home in South Green, Norfolk.
His parents, Michael Hall and Rebecca Faircloth, have now instructed specialist International Personal Injury lawyers at Irwin Mitchell to look into the conditions at the hotel. The specialist law firm has written to tour operator Thomson about the family’s concerns.
Jatinder Paul, an Associate Solicitor and expert International Personal Injury lawyer at Irwin Mitchell is representing the family.
Expert Opinion
The first-hand account we have heard from the family is deeply concerning. William was in a lot of pain and distress, meaning that what should have been an enjoyable sunshine holiday for the family has ended with them being concerned for his health.
“We are investigating the circumstances as to how William fell ill and would encourage anyone else who suffered similar symptoms, while staying at Protur Aparthotel Vista Badia, to help us with our investigation.” Jatinder Paul - Partner
Michael, an insurance manager, and Rebecca jetted off with William for their summer holiday on July 8.
However, on July 20, William started to suffer from sickness, diarrhoea and a fever. The resort doctor sent William to hospital and placed him on a drip overnight before he and his parents were allowed to fly home.
On his return to the UK, William continued to suffer from diarrhoea and developed a rash which covered his face, neck, torso and limbs.
Laboratory samples by Public Health England confirmed William had Salmonella Typhimurium.
They have told their legal team at Irwin Mitchell that on occasion they saw food uncovered, new food added to dishes that had been left to stand and cold food not always chilled.
Rebecca said: “William was really excited about going on holiday before our departure,
“However, his illness means a holiday that should have left him with many childhood memories instead turned into a nightmare.
“To see him laying helpless in a hospital bed wired up on a drip was heart-breaking.”
Michael added: “William’s illness has caused us all great upset and stress. It has been particularly sad to see William so distressed as he has been so poorly.
“We’re angry that a few simple precautions could have prevented the pain he has had to suffer.”
