Oliver Collett Joins The Firm As Senior Associate
Irwin Mitchell has announced the appointment of Oliver Collett as senior associate at the national law firm’s Leeds office. Oliver will sit in the team’s impressive industrial disease illness team.
Having graduated in 2000 at The University of Birmingham, Oliver joined Thompsons Solicitors in 2002, qualifying in 2004. At Thompsons he was Leeds Unit Manager and a senior industrial disease solicitor prior to joining Irwin Mitchell. In the most recent Legal 500 rankings, Irwin Mitchell’s Personal Injury team in Yorkshire was ranked as tier one.
Speaking about his appointment, Oliver said: “I'm excited to join the leading law firm representing victims of asbestos related disease. Irwin Mitchell's focus on delivering the highest standard of client care and unparalleled service is what attracted me to the firm.
“I have seen at first hand the devastating effect that asbestos related cancer has on individuals and families. The importance of providing experienced and specialist legal support, at a time when people feel at their most vulnerable, cannot be overstated.
“I look forward to providing our clients with that support and working tirelessly to deliver justice for them and their families.”
Oliver will be working under the leadership of Ian Toft, the head of the industrial illness team at Irwin Mitchell’s Leeds office.

Expert Opinion
“We are delighted to welcome Oliver to Irwin Mitchell. We are always striving to add significantly to the breadth and depth of our team in Leeds, and we believe we have successfully done this with the appointment of Oliver.” Ian Toft - Partner & Head of Asbestos and Occupational Disease (North)
Irwin Mitchell is known for winning landmark cases including a ground-breaking asbestos related disease case which set a precedent for Hospices to recover funds for the people treated who have a valid claim against their former employers for negligently exposing them to the deadly dust.
Ian’s team also recently secured a landmark agreement with the defendant insurers to cover the future costs of cancer treatment for one of the firm’s clients.
The landmark agreement the team secured created a Periodical Payments Order and means that a settlement did not have to wait until the claimant’s treating doctors actually advised that he should receive immunotherapy treatment, thereby avoiding the need to estimate treatment costs ahead of time in an area of breath-taking change both in terms of the drugs available and their cost.
It will ensure he will have enough funds to cover the cost of any such treatment in future, no matter what that treatment is and no matter how long it lasts for. This is the first of its kind for mesothelioma cases.
