Expert International Personal Injury Lawyers Investigating Holiday Resort’s Food Practices
A man who needed medical attention following a week-long holiday in Egypt has instructed expert international personal injury lawyers at Irwin Mitchell to investigate the cause of his illness at the Sunrise Holiday Resort.
Alan Rice, 64, from Liverpool and his wife Alexandra Rice, 52, booked their late summer, Egyptian getaway at the four-star resort through tour operator Thomas Cook.
However, two days in to the couple’s holiday, Alex began to suffer with severe gastric illness symptoms, including diarrhoea and stomach cramps. Alan fell ill towards the end of the holiday and on return to the UK his symptoms worsened.
Once he returned home Alan attended the walk-in centre where he underwent numerous tests and doctors prescribed him with medication to assist. Unfortunately Alan’s symptoms are still on-going and he is yet to make a full recovery.
Jennifer Downing, an expert international personal injury lawyer at national law firm Irwin Mitchell, representing Alan, said:
Expert Opinion
“The illness Alan suffered is concerning and shows how vulnerable people can be affected by gastric illness.
“We have now launched our own investigation into the cause of the illness Alan suffered at the resort and we would urge anyone else affected at the hotel to contact us as they may be able to help us with our investigation.” Jennifer Downing - Solicitor
Both Alan and Alexandra have told their legal team of a number of concerns they had about hygiene practices at the hotel, including some of the food being served lukewarm, including chicken dishes, a lack of supervision and lids being left open leaving food exposed within the restaurants, and on occasion flies landing on the food.
Alan, self-employed and lives in Litherland said: “The illness I suffered ruined my holiday and is still having an impact on me.
“You don’t go on holiday to come back feeling worse than when you left but that’s exactly what happened to me.
“We placed our trust in Thomas Cook and the Sunrise Holiday Resort when we booked to stay there and we feel let down. We want to know what caused the illness and make sure these issues are investigated. .
