Irwin Mitchell Provides Boost To Thomas Rotherham College Students
Law firm Irwin Mitchell continued its commitment to making the legal industry more inclusive by inviting students from Thomas Rotherham College to experience a week of life at its busy Sheffield office.
As part of the work undertaken by IM Aspiring, one of the law firm’s diversity networking group which encourages and promotes social mobility, Irwin Mitchell works in conjunction with PRIME, a consortium of law firms that makes sure more people from every walk of life have access to a career in law.
Through the scheme, four students Jack Rhodes, Alicia Dimberline, Jack Bell and Natalia Golawska shadowed employees from a variety if departments at the firm to gain valuable experience and a better understanding of the legal sector.
This year’s initiative was organised by solicitors Marcelo Masri, Katrina Edwards, Laura Haigh, Charlotte Civico and Sinead Hayes.

Expert Opinion
“The work experience scheme we offer through PRIME is really important for young people looking to get into law, as in the past it was very much a case of ‘who you know’ in terms of getting good quality work experience in the legal sector.
“No matter what background a person comes from, all students should be entitled to get experience of their chosen career, which is why Irwin Mitchell takes pride at being part of the PRIME initiative.
“It means that in the future, the mix of legal professionals will become more inclusive and diverse, which ultimately means that clients will have a greater choice of lawyers to meet their needs and fight on their behalf.” Sinead Rollinson-Hayes - Associate Solicitor Advocate
One of the main aims of PRIME is to expose students to the full range of careers available in the legal and financial sector, including non-legal roles in many of the departments which support Irwin Mitchell. As the UK’s biggest full service law firm, Irwin Mitchell is able to offer work experience students involvement in a variety of different departments.
During their week-long work experience placement, the students from Thomas Rotherham College spent time with the Medical Negligence, Marketing, Legal Helpline, Learning and Development, Public Law, Serious Injury, Special Damages Unit, Contentious Probate, Court of Protection, Conveyancing, IT, Fast Track PI, Irwin Mitchell Asset Management and Commercial Litigation teams.
