Couple Receives Five Figure Settlement After Egyptian Honeymoon ‘Ruined’ By Gastric Illness
Expert travel illness lawyers at Irwin Mitchell have secured a £12,000 settlement from tour operator Thomas Cook Tour Operations Limited for a couple whose honeymoon in Egypt was ruined when they both fell severely ill.
Guy Chapman, 37, and his wife Denise, 50, travelled to the four-star Sierra Resort in Egypt in June 2013 for their honeymoon and to celebrate Guy’s 35th birthday, but they both fell ill with diarrhoea, vomiting and stomach cramps during their two-week stay.
The symptoms they suffered left them confined to the hotel complex and they both visited their GP on their return to the UK as their symptoms continued.
The Birmingham couple instructed expert International Personal Injury lawyers at Irwin Mitchell to investigate the gastric illness they suffered. Despite no admission of liability being made by Thomas Cook, Irwin Mitchell has now secured settlements for each of their clients.
Nichola Blackburn, the expert in the specialist International Personal Injury team at Irwin Mitchell, who represented Guy and Denise, said:
Expert Opinion
“This couple suffered terrible symptoms while staying at the Sierra Resort, including stomach cramps, diarrhoea and vomiting, on what was supposed to be a relaxing and luxurious holiday.
“Guy and Denise are extremely relieved that they have now received a settlement from the tour operator, which they placed their trust in when booking this holiday. Now that settlement has been reached, we hope that our clients can now start to move on with their lives and put this experience behind them." Nichola Blackburn - Paralegal
Guy, an Engineer, said: “We were looking forward to this holiday for a long time and were excited to be celebrating our honeymoon and my 35th birthday.
“The illness severely impacted our enjoyment of the holiday and every time we look back on it all we have is terrible memories.
“We ate in the restaurants at the resort but were extremely disappointed and on occasions we noticed the chicken sometimes was being served pink on the inside and some of the food did not feel hot enough.
“We would like to thank our legal team at Irwin Mitchell for their support and now we will look to put this ordeal behind us.”
