Irwin Mitchell Provide Sponsorship For Disability Sports In Yorkshire Region
Expert medical negligence lawyers from Irwin Mitchell’s Leeds office were on hand at the West Yorkshire Sports Summer Games held on Tuesday (7th July).
Irwin Mitchell provided sponsorship at the event, where around 1,200 children from Bradford, Calderdale, Kirklees, Leeds and Wakefield gathered at Leeds Beckett University, Headingley Campus.
Children won the honour of representing their schools and districts in an exciting day of competition across a range of sports including: Athletics, Boccia, New Age Kurling, Cheerleading, Cycling, Goalball, Golf and Gymnastics.
As part of The Sainsbury's School Games, the event is organised by the West Yorkshire Sport who have a remit to develop physical education (PE) and sporting opportunities across all schools in the county.
Irwin Mitchell has been working closely with West Yorkshire Sport to support disabled sport in the region and lawyers from the law firm’s Leeds office were supporting Boccia and New Age Kurling events at the games.
The Paralympic game Boccia involves players rolling, throwing or kicking a ball towards a jack. If players are unable to throw or kick they can use a ramp to roll the ball from a sitting position making Boccia an accessible and inclusive sport.
Expert Opinion
“At Irwin Mitchell, we work extremely hard to support disabled people who want to be involved in sport and we were delighted to be able to offer our sponsorship and support at the Summer Games, motivating and inspiring young people, particularly as we know how important events like this are.
“Myself and colleagues have been working together with West Yorkshire Sports and Boccia England on a disability sports initiative which involves us starting up a Boccia club for disabled children and young adults in Leeds.
“It is great to see the inclusive sport of Boccia being recognised and participated in at the event today, we are proud to be able to help people embrace sport and look to the future after they have suffered serious injury or disability.”
