Expert Asbestos-Related Disease Lawyers Recover £18,500 For Manorlands Sue Ryder Hospice
Specialist asbestos-related disease lawyers from Irwin Mitchell’s Leeds office have secured £18,500 of care costs for the Manorlands Sue Ryder Hospice in Keighley where one of their clients was cared for before he died from mesothelioma.
The recovery of care costs for Manorlands Sue Ryder Hospice follows a landmark ruling in a 2010 case led by Irwin Mitchell which found that the insurers of a company responsible for the death of a worker from asbestos should contribute to his or her hospice care costs.
Ian Toft, head of the Asbestos Disease team at Irwin Mitchell’s Leeds office, said:
Expert Opinion
“Most people don’t realise that, while hospice care is always free at the point of delivery, the majority of the money used to provide that support is paid for by charitable donations rather than by the NHS. Typically, only around a third of a person’s care is paid for by the state.
“The remaining money comes from the fundraising work that the hospice does itself. While we can’t hope to replace the hard work of the large numbers of people who give their time and effort to support Sue Ryder and the Hospice movement generally, we are pleased that in certain cases we can make sure that the money expended on our client’s care is not lost to the system.
“We are delighted to play our part in supporting hospices wherever we can and cherish our strong links to the hospices throughout the region. We are proud to have recovered in excess of £150,000 for hospices within our region that will enable them to continue providing vital support for those suffering with life-limiting diseases.” Ian Toft - Partner & Head of Asbestos and Occupational Disease (North)
