Woman’s Birthday Celebrations Ruined After Problems At Sharm El Sheikh Resort
Specialist travel lawyers have been instructed for the second consecutive year by a group of holidaymakers hit by symptoms of gastric illness at the Sensatori Sharm El Sheikh Resort in Egypt.
One of the members of the group required medical attention from the on-site clinic after developing severe abdominal pains and diarrhoea. Another member of the group, Lisa Baldwin, who was planning to celebrate her 40th birthday while on holiday, needed medical attention on her return home to Hampshire.
Lisa, from Farnborough, developed gastric symptoms on the last day of her stay at the Egyptian holiday resort, which were so severe she endured a difficult flight home.
Her symptoms of gastric illness continued on her return home and Lisa was so unwell she needed one week off from her job as an area sales manager.
Now, the group have revealed their hopes for answers regarding the ordeal after instructing legal experts in Irwin Mitchell’s International Personal Injury team to investigate the problems on their holiday booked through the tour operator TUI UK Ltd.
The specialist travel lawyers, who have vast experience helping thousands of victims of illness outbreaks across the globe to gain answers and access vital financial support to aid their recovery, are already representing holidaymakers affected by illness problems during stays at the Sensatori Resort in 2014.
Amandeep Dhillon, a specialist lawyer in Irwin Mitchell’s International Personal Injury team, representing the group, said:
Expert Opinion
“We are concerned by the first-hand accounts we have heard regarding these issues at the Sensatori Sharm El Sheikh Resort and have started work to further investigate the problems which our clients faced.
“The experience Lisa and her friends have endured is a reminder of how holiday illness can have a lasting impact on victims.
“As such, the seriousness of holiday illness cannot be underestimated. We are determined to ensure that our clients get the answers they deserve regarding these problems and we would like to hear from anyone who was at the resort at the time and suffered illness, as they may be able to help with our investigations.” Amandeep Dhillon - Partner
Lisa told her lawyers at Irwin Mitchell that meat served in the hotel restaurants was sometimes undercooked and often food was not as hot as it should be. Lisa was concerned to witness food left uncovered in the buffet restaurant and flies landing on the food as a result.
She recalled: “I started being sick at about 4.30pm on my last day at the resort, making my flight home very uncomfortable. Once we landed in the UK at around 2am, I started having severe diarrhoea and very painful stomach cramps.
“This holiday was supposed to be a celebration for my 40th birthday and now when I look back at it, it’s tainted with the memories of being severely ill.
“I visited my doctor’s surgery as soon as I could because the illness was unbearable and I really needed help. I had to have a week off work and I still have to deal with some of the symptoms even now. I’ve lost 5 pounds in weight since my holiday and I want answers as to why this has happened.
“The illness completely ruined what should have been a happy end to our holiday and to my birthday celebrations. The illness has had a real impact upon not only the holiday but my day-to-day life and I’m frustrated that I was unable to return to work and that I’m still suffering with some of the symptoms.
“In my opinion the hotel is not worth the five star rating it has in the brochure and I felt that we were treated as a problem by staff not customers. Instead of coming home relaxed I just wish we’d never gone on the holiday now.”
