The incident occurred on a road near King's Cross Station when the former Doctor Who star was attempting a U-turn. At the time, her two young sons were also in the car as it turned at a low speed.
As this occurred, the cyclist came down a steep section of the road at significant speed and collided with the vehicle.
Ms Piper herself and her children were unharmed, although she had to pull out of a theatre appearance at short notice. She was interviewed by police at the scene while the young cyclist received treatment from the London Ambulance Service for a serious injury to his shoulder.
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: "Police were called to Goods Way, King’s Cross, by the London Ambulance Service at 15:56hrs. on Tuesday, July 29[th] to reports of a road traffic collision between a motor vehicle and a cyclist. The driver of the vehicle was female. Enquiries continue. No further details at this stage."
The force will have to consider if there is a possibility that Ms Piper was in any way culpable for the accident and if they do, they will forward the case to the Crown Prosecution Service to decide if further action is required.
In another incident in London at the weekend a cyclist died after colliding with a car on London Bridge.

Expert Opinion
This is yet another couple of incidents involving a cyclist on the roads of London in quick succession.
