Recognition For International Success At Birmingham Law Society Awards
A leading lawyer from Irwin Mitchell is celebrating achieving the International Lawyer of the Year accolade at the Birmingham Law Society Legal Awards 2013.
Clive Garner, who has been the head of Irwin Mitchell’s travel litigation team since 1997, received the top award at a glitzy ceremony at the International Convention Centre after being recognised for the wide range of highly publicised international litigation he and his team have successfully undertaken.
Clive specialises in high value claims including fatal accidents and acting for clients who have suffered a severe brain or spinal injury. He has represented thousands of UK and foreign victims and acted in more than 300 group action claims arising from incidents including aviation and maritime disasters, coach crashes, terrorist attacks and outbreaks of serious illness including Legionnaires’ disease.
Clive, who lives in Birmingham, said: “I’m very proud to win this award which recognises once again that Irwin Mitchell is so highly regarded for the international personal injury work we undertake for our clients.
“Since our specialist International Personal Injury team was established more than 15 years ago we have successfully represented many thousands of clients seriously injured or the families of those tragically killed in virtually every part of the world. A number of our clients have won record awards of damages and we have acted in several precedent setting cases in the courts of England and Wales as well as abroad.
“I consider myself very lucky to have had so many wonderful clients over the years. It has been a privilege to have helped them through the difficult times they have faced. This award simply would not have been possible without them. Likewise, this award reflects the achievements of all of the partners and colleagues in the International travel team – it is an award for all of us.”
As well as representing victims of the 9/11 tragedy, Clive and his legal team have acted for victims of more than 20 coach crashes, a number of maritime disasters (including the Costa Concordia) and numerous aircraft crashes all around the world.
Clive and his team have also represented hundreds of individual clients seriously injured on holiday or at work abroad. For over 10 years Clive and his team have been recognised, following independent research, as the UK’s leading lawyers representing the victims of accidents abroad and their families.
Now in their twelfth year, the awards have become a permanent fixture in the legal and business calendar, with the event attracting a capacity crowd to celebrate the success and achievement of both individuals and firms over the last 12 months.
