Riders Will Visit Six Of Firm’s Offices To Commemorate Epilepsy Week

Sheffield based charity FABLE (For A Better Life with Epilepsy) has challenged a group of cyclists to ride the length of the country in five days, to raise funds for the charity. 

Irwin Mitchell solicitors are sponsoring Stocksbridge Cycle Club £2,000 to take on the 407 mile endurance challenge, visiting six of its offices en route, starting at the firm’s Newcastle office, to commemorate National Epilepsy Week.

The journey will take place from the 21st to the 25th May during the awareness week, and the charity’s celebrity patron, Barbara Windsor, plans to greet the riders at the firm’s central London office finish line on the Friday afternoon.

The ride will see the Club set off from the north east on the morning of Monday 21st, before ending the day at the firm’s Leeds office. The journey will then take them to the Manchester, Sheffield, and Birmingham offices respectively each day before they arrive in the capital at the end of the week, with an average distance of 80 miles and climb of 3,400 ft traversed each day.

Stewart Smith, founder of Stocksbridge Cycling Club, said: “The work done at FABLE, along with the support they give, is amazing. It is also very close to me, as their wonderful staff supported my partner when her son sadly died of epilepsy.

“I wanted to try and give something back, and with the support of my club mates came up with this cycling challenge. It will be very tough, but every penny raised will make it worthwhile.”

UK charity FABLE was established in 1995 in order to fund implants which treat epilepsy for severe sufferers, but now also provides a patient support network and runs the Epilepsy Information and Advice Centre in the centre of Sheffield.

The organisation, along with other epilepsy charities, supports National Epilepsy Week. The campaign aims to raise public awareness of epilepsy and improve the quality of life of those who suffer from it.
