Pile-up Leads To Major Congestion On Motorway
Investigations are continuing after a major road traffic collision on the M6 involving nine vehicles which led to the death of one man and left three others with serious injuries.
The pile-up close to junction 16 at Sandbach on the southbound carriageway of motorway on Monday morning (December 10th) included two lorries, two vans and five cars, with seven people also suffering minor injuries in the incident.
Major delays were seen on the route, while the road accident also had an effect on surrounding roads in the area. Road users across the UK were warned about the issue and urged to take alternative routes.
It has since emerged that 54-year-old Alan Bullock from the Blackpool area was the man killed in the incident, while reports have suggested a 33-year-old woman from Sheffield was among those seriously injured.
Jonathan Betts, a legal specialist and serious injury expert at Irwin Mitchell’s Manchester office, said it was vital that every effort was made to gain answers over the incident.
He explained: “It clearly remains very early days in relation to the investigation of this awful tragedy, but it is hugely important that police and road authorities work to gather more information about this crash to fully understand the circumstances surrounding it.
“Such details will prove vital in ensuring a full picture of the incident can be created, with a view to ultimately then considering how lessons can be learned which will go some way from preventing the same terrible problems from occurring again.”
