Expert Welcomes Food Safety Move
A product recall launched by Aconbury over fears that some products are contaminated with salmonella has been welcomed by a specialist at Irwin Mitchell.
The Food Standards Agency has revealed that the company is recalling batches of its Organic Mixed and Organic Rainbow Salad, as well as some packs of Organic Mung Bean Sprouts, due to concerns they contain the dangerous bacteria.
Packs with use-by dates which run between March 2nd and March 16th 2011 have been specifically requested for recall by the company.
Irwin Mitchell has a strong track record in representing groups of people who have suffered serious medical problems after consuming food products infected with the salmonella bacterium.
In the past, the law firm represented a number of clients in a battle for justice against Cadbury’s after they contracted salmonella Montevideo from eating chocolate bars infected with the strain. The company was fined £1 million over the product contamination.
Gary Walker of Irwin Mitchell's specialist group actions team said: "We have been instructed by a number of groups of claimants affected after eating food products infected with salmonella in the past.
“This experience means we have seen first-hand just how extremely serious the effects of food poisoning of this kind can be, especially in the elderly or young children.
“It is vital that food retailers take all necessary steps to protect the public from outbreaks of salmonella by enforcing rigorous safety standards during all stages of their production process.”
