We successfully recovered compensation for a family of 16 holidaymakers whose trip to Tenerife was ruined by illness.
Our clients, a large extended family, had booked a fortnight’s holiday at the Luabay Costa Los Gigantes resort – which is now known as the Be Live Family Costa Los Gigantes resort. They were hoping for a relaxing break together as a family, but many started to suffer from gastric illness only a few days into the trip.
The whole family fell ill with serious gastric symptoms including diarrhoea, abdominal pains and vomiting. For some of the guests the symptoms persisted even after they got home. Two members of the group continue to suffer with problems.
There were several causes for concern at the hotel. The guests noticed that food was often served lukewarm and was frequently left uncovered for long periods of time. They were also troubled by the number of flies in the hotel restaurants during meal times.
We successfully secured compensation for all 16 family members despite the tour operator, TUI UK Limited, denying responsibility for the guests’ illness.
Jennifer Mullins, a specialist international personal injury lawyer, represented the group. She said: “This big family holiday was completely ruined by gastric illness. Our clients are now understandably relieved to have received a settlement from the tour operator for the pain and suffering they endured. We hope this case acts as a reminder to all tour operators of the importance of keeping their holidaymakers safe and ensuring that appropriate health and hygiene standards are met.”
