We have successfully secured compensation for 41 holidaymakers who contracted gastric illness during their stay at the Hotel Los Gigantes in Tenerife in 2011.
Our clients reported various complaints with the hotel, including food being served lukewarm and sometimes appearing raw in the middle. They were concerned that the hotel also failed to warn them in advance about an existing illness outbreak at the establishment. Instead, guests arrived to find letters on their pillows advising them of these issues.
Many of those who fell ill continued to suffer symptoms upon their return to the UK, including stomach cramps, diarrhoea, vomiting and lethargy. Sadly, some members of the group continue to suffer with symptoms to this day.
We successfully secured a settlement for all 41 holidaymakers. The tour operator TUI UK Limited repeatedly denied responsibility for the guests’ illness, but finally chose to negotiate an out of court settlement only months before the trial was due to take place.
Expert international personal injury lawyer Jennifer Mullins represented the group. She said: “The failings of the hotel were documented expert reports. A site inspection of the hotel took place in 2014, which identified continued failings in the hotel’s health and hygiene procedures. It is disappointing that TUI UK Limited denied responsibility in spite of this and chose to leave it to such a late stage to negotiate an out of court settlement. Our clients are now understandably relieved to have received a settlement for the pain and suffering which they endured. We hope they can now move on with their lives.”
