We obtained compensation for a woman who was left with nerve injury and facial disfigurement after a forceps delivery.
Our client was delivered by Kielland forceps in 1992, but the forceps were not applied properly and left her with a mark above her eye and a deep wound in her left cheek after she was born. As our client grew up, it became clear that this traumatic delivery had caused nerve damage and permanent scarring.
She was eventually diagnosed with left-sided Horner’s Syndrome. The nerve damage from the forceps resulted in facial disfigurement, including a drooping of the upper eyelid, difference in size of her pupils and marked asymmetry of facial appearance following exercise. This altered appearance had a significant effect on her both socially and psychologically.
We secured a five-figure settlement in February 2016 for the trauma caused to our client. She was represented by Rosalie Reading, a specialist solicitor in our Birmingham office with particular experience in birth injury claims.
Rosalie said: “Our client has suffered as a result of the negligent care she received at birth, both physically and psychologically. The settlement secured will help compensate her for this, as well as provide her with the financial means to undergo life-changing corrective surgery.”
After the settlement was reached, our client said: “Thank you for all your support over the past few years. I couldn’t wish for a better solicitor to guide me through the case.”
If you or your child have suffered a birth injury, our medical negligence solicitors could help you claim compensation. See our birth injury claims section for more information.
